What's New in CodeWarrior(R) Professional for Java, Release 5
For a complete, tool-by-tool list of new features, bug fixes,
and other important information, refer to the Release Notes folder.
But for the quick scoop on the highlights, read on.
New Feature Highlights
CodeWarrior IDE Version 4.0
- Graphical editing of Java UI, for both AWT and Swing.
- Java language authoring as an addition to the class browser, meaning
support for creating classes, methods, and data members.
- Java Bean authoring tools.
- Text (XML) import and export of projects.
- IDE Custom Commands and Keybindings dialog.
- A new Makefile converter. See "Makefile Converter notes.txt".
- User-defined source trees.
- Auto-variables feature in debugger.
Java Compilers & Tools
- Faster, smaller, less buggy.
- Helps linker with manifest management.
- Switch to enable backward-compatible code generation for clinits
that were elided in the 1.1 Sun compiler, to allow for backward-
compatible serialization. (No pref panel for this yet.)
- Methods compiled in other classes within the same project
are now available to client classes for method inlining, even
if the client class is compiled during a different lifetime
of the compiler.
- Method inlining can now be done recursively.
Metrowerks Java on Windows
- Moved the Java vm services to the sunvmhub.dll so they can be
used by all interpreted plugins including the RAD plugins.
- The .exes generated by the linker when the output is set to
"application" now support the regular JRE commandline options.
- Removed support for JRE.
- The linker now supports passing vm specific arguments to the Sun or
Microsoft VM for initialization.
Metrowerks Java on the Mac
- Support for the latest Java Linker in the IDE.
- Uses the default MRJ URL Authentication dialog instead of a custom
one.
- Only Apple's MRJ is now supported in MW Java. The MW JVM has been
retired.
- Appearence Manager 1.01 support within MW Java. This says nothing for
what MRJ might do. MRJ 2.1 seems to support Appearance, MRJ 2.0
seems not to.
On-line Documentation
- Additional task topics dealing with the RAD tools.
- IDE interface help added to online help.
- Core Help now includes To Do tasks, Glossary, Error Reference.
- Help menu modified to directly access specific help topics.
